Captain Eric Jergenson
Assistant Professor of Marine Transportation
Maine Maritime Academy
Captain Eric Jergenson is a limited United States Coast Guard licensed master for auxiliary sail vessels valid upon oceans routes. He attended Maine Maritime Academy where he received a Bachelor of Science in small vessel operations. He later received a Master of Science in adult education from the University of Southern Maine.
Currently he serves as Assistant Professor of Marine Transportation at Maine Maritime Academy where he teaches both in the classroom and at sea. His classes include Terrestrial, Celestial, and Advanced Navigation in addition to courses in Seamanship, Nautical Science, and Small Craft Construction. Previously, Captain Jergenson sailed as master of MMA’s Arctic Schooner Bowdoin and as sailing master for the Academy’s waterfront. He continues sailing summers aboard Bowdoin as a senior training officer for academic courses.
Captain Jergenson is an Instructor Trainer and National Faculty Member for US Sailing and travels throughout the United States certifying sailing instructors to these professional standards. He actively supports local sailing programs for both children and adults. His most important work remains raising his two children together with his wife Teri on their small farm in Stockton Springs.
