David is a lifelong resident of the Penobscot Bay Area and began his commercial fishing career at age 14. After graduating from Higgins Classical Institute in 1968, he went on to graduate from the Southern Maine Technical College Marine Technology program and the University of Maine at Augusta.
As a young mariner, David served as a boatswain’s mate aboard a U.S. Navy oil tanker upon which he sailed around the world. After discharge from the Navy he was employed as a Maine Marine Patrol Officer and then fulfilled a career with Central Maine Power Company as a research vessel captain and project manager.
While continuing his career as a full time lobster fisherman since 1989, he served his local community for 23 years as a member of the Belfast Harbor Committee. Additionally, he was chairman of the Maine Zone D Lobster Management Policy Council for 7 years.
David looks forward to helping guide young people into ocean careers which will present students with great opportunities similar to what he has both benefited from, and enjoyed over the years.
