Almon "Bud" Rivers
Searsport Emergency Management Director
Bud was born and raised in Searsport where he graduated in 1963 from Searsport High School. He then received a Fleet appointment to the United States Naval Academy and earned an undesignated Bachelor of Science degree majoring in naval science and aeronautical engineering. Bud then served the next 11 years in the United States Navy Surface Nuclear Power Program and became a qualified engineer officer. In 1974 he received a Master of Science degree from the United States Naval Postgraduate School.
After his naval service he then spent more than 30 years in engineering, operations, maintenance, training, quality assurance, and leadership and management of commercial and governmental nuclear and hazardous material facilities. He is currently serving as Searsport’s Emergency Management Director and as a fire and HAZMAT first responder where he leads the Waldo County HAZMAT Team and Waldo Area Confined Space Rescue team (and has been doing so since 2010). Bud also serves on several town and county committees, as well as the Waldo County Incident Management Assistance Team.
