Today Maine Ocean School hosted an informative admissions event for families to drop in and learn about the school. Our Admissions Package was posted at the end of last month and we have seen a lot of positive feedback! A number of students and families made an appearance at our Pop-Up event to get the scoop, and it was great to talk with everyone and answer questions. Some traveled even as far as New Hampshire to see us!
Current Maine Ocean School updates include policies, Policies, POLICIES! We have been furiously writing and approving policies to be ready for this fall. Who knew there were so many! Job descriptions have been developed for an Administrative Assistant Director and an Advertisement Director and both will be posted soon, so keep an eye out! Another Leadership Forum will be held on March 6th in Belfast to discuss local industry partnerships. These partnerships are important to help future students network and gain real-world skills in marine related careers.
Representative James Gillway is currently developing the Summer Program for this year which will be open to anyone interested in Maine Ocean School from 8th grade on up through high school. It will be a week-long event that will consist of camping and traveling the Maine coast getting exposure to various marine careers in science, transportation, engineering, and management. There will be many opportunities for hands-on experiences, so keep an eye out for updates in the coming months!
Check the Calendar for upcoming School and Foundation meetings. Anyone interested in attending is welcome to join!
Board of Trustee member, Tom Marx, has sadly resigned due to personal conflicts; however, he has taken on the position of Trustee Emeritus to continue his involvement. His work has been critical in the development of the school, and we are grateful for his continued support!
If you are looking for fun events to attend in the upcoming month, Maine Ocean School will be at the Fisherman’s Forum at the Samoset Resort in Rockland on March 1st to the 3rd. We will then be traveling further south to Portland for the Maine Boatbuilders Show on March 23rd to March 25th. Presentations will be given by Board of Trustees Chair, Eric Jergensen.
